Latest news. The Centre has just been awarded a research grant by The Nuffield Foundation to study "Seasonality and the 'Fear' of Crime". The study began on the 1st July, 1999, and will conclude on the 31st January, 2001. The basic idea is to test the proposition that 'fear' of crime will vary with weather, climate and seasonality in the same way that actual criminal victimisation is known to vary. Surveys will be conducted in two locations (one in England and one in Scotland) at the end of each of the four seasons, and over a 12 month period.
